Polo Beach
Could not sleep. We got up at 5:00 a.m. and lazed around for a couple of hours, enjoying the early morning hours.
We were at Polo Beach by 8:00 a.m. The waves on Polo Beach are bigger and better for body surfing (we haven’t rented boogie boards yet). Steve had a blast out there body surfing!!! The water is so warm – I just can’t believe how warm it is!!! And the sand on this beach is as incredibly soft as it was on Wailea beach yesterday.
Because the waves sounded so much louder on Polo Beach, we really couldn’t hear anybody around us – so it was even more relaxing. We spent 2.5 hours on the beach and then back to the condo. I’m even more sunburned now – you would never guess that we’re slathering on 50 spf sunscreen!!!!
I have to mentioned how clean everything is. There is absolutely NO litter on the beaches and no crap in the water. Nothing but soft, soft sand and water. I’ve never seen a beach without any litter or slimy, gross seaweed on it.
Steve walked around the point at the south end of Polo Beach and took these photos. It’s so beautiful there!
Grand Wailea – Such Opulence!!!
The sky got a little gray this afternoon and we were afraid it was going to rain for the luau tonight. But it didn’t and it got hot again. We walked down to the Grand Wailea around 3:00, found where the luau was to be held and wandered around the opulent grounds of the Grand Wailea. This is quite some resort!!!
Lava Flows – YUMMMMM
About an hour before the luau opened, we went up to the Bistro Molokini – a restaurant/bar at the Grand Wailea, and well….
Lava Flows – where have you been all my life? And why did it take me 5 days to find you?
I’m not sure exactly what is in these drinks, but there’s rum, pineapple, coconut and icecream for sure. DeeeeeLICIOUS!!! Steve was jealous – his Sweet Leilani was nowhere near as good!!!!! (although it was good too)
The view from the Molokini Bar. I completely forgot to take pics of the Lava Flow
The Luau
The luau – we had both been looking forward to this.
That morning, we decided tg upgrade to premium seating for another $10 per ticket – that would give us better seating. And boy, did it ever!!! We had one of the two front and centre tables. Awesome seats!!!! There were 10 people per table – our table had 5 couples, three of whom were newlyweds (all married the previous Saturday), and two couples (us included) who’d been together for 15 years. Our table mates were from California, Houston and Connecticut.
Before the show, there was dinner. And drinks. Free mai tais and pina coladas. We each had a few – they are good at first, but man, they are sweet!!!! The food was pretty good. Better than most buffet food.
Then they asked people to come up for some hula lessons. Since I know NOBODY there and wasn’t too concerned about embarrassing myself, I went up. Now, I haven’t got a rhythmic bone in my body, but it was fun!!!!
The luau was amazing. The dancers are so fluid and graceful. Just beautiful. The fire dancer was amazing (and crazy!!!) Before we knew it, it was over. We wandered along the beach path back to the Marriot, and walked back to the condo.
Another Beautiful Day Over
And so ended our fifth full day in paradise.
